Three months after the ASEAN Climate Leadership Programme (ACLP) completed in December 2020, alumni have already been able to put their learnings into practice.
At the first ACLP alumni gathering on 18 March 2021, alumni updated each other about their leadership journeys and shared how they applied leadership skills in their work and personal context after the programme completed. Some participants shared how they drew inspiration from the topics discussed during the programme and initiated new climate-related projects at their workplaces. Others reflected on how their strengthened leadership skills helped them to overcome challenges. In particular, they reported, the leadership journey has improved their ability to aim for goals by working in iterations and to listen closely and learn from different stakeholders’ perspectives. This has helped them to come up with better solutions.
The ACLP facilitators, Mr Andre de Wit and Ms Rejani Kunjappan, provided a brief recap of the ACLP 2020 leadership journey. It captured highlights from the five module workshops of the programme from 1 October to 11 December 2020, including a summary of the ACLP leadership framework.
Keeping the Network Alive
ACLP alumni identified several potential joint activities to keep the network alive and keep in touch, including by organising webinars and training on climate-smart land-use-related topics, and by sharing information through the ACLP Facebook Group. The facilitators stressed the need for alumni to show initiative to continue building and maintaining the network and invited them to approach the Climate-Smart Land Use in ASEAN (CSLU) team with suggestions for activities.
The meeting saw the launch of the ACLP microsite (www.aseanclimateleadership.org).
Its purpose is to communicate relevant information on the ACLP to the public and to keep learning material available for the alumni.
